Character Creation
Hogwarts Legacy is a new open-world action RPG that takes place in the same world as the Harry Potter series of books and films. It’s developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games Interactive, Portkey Games and J.K. Rowling.
Avalanche’s character creator has been praised for its flexibility in allowing players to mix and match gender options, as well as customizing their look to their heart’s content. This is a refreshing move, particularly given the transphobic views of J.K. Rowling, the game’s creator and a key figure in the original series.
It also allows players to create their own characters in the Hogwarts school, a place that’s filled with magical creatures, classmates, and ne’er-do-well adult wizards. You’ll be able to master spells, brew potions, and harvest magic plants during your time at the prestigious institution.
Gameplay
Hogwarts Legacy is the first game in the Harry Potter franchise to offer a full-fledged video game experience. The single-player game puts players in the shoes of a late magical bloomer who is lagging behind their peers at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
In addition to traditional academic and magical quests, Hogwarts Legacy also introduces non-combat activities inspired by classes attended by students at the famous wizarding school. These include learning how to brew potions, tame magical beasts and ride a flying broom.
The story takes place in the 1800s – that’s more than 200 years before Harry Potter was born and a century before the rise of Grindelwald. The game doesn’t feature any Voldemort or Dumbledore appearances, although it will include snippets of lore from the books and films.
Storyline
Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s, one hundred years before the events of the Harry Potter novels. This means it could break the canon of the series, but Portkey Games developers aim to keep things as true to the wizarding world as possible.
The story will center on a goblin rebellion that threatens the magic order. It will be up to you to save the day and figure out Ancient Magic, a mysterious power that has appeared on the Hogwarts campus.
You’ll be accompanied by Ranrok, the goblin rebel leader, and professor Fig as you work to unlock access to the Map Chamber, a secret vault that houses portraits of past Hogwarts professors who dedicated themselves to keeping this ancient magic secret a secret from the wizarding world. Through the Four Trials that these professors prepared, you’ll gradually learn more about Ancient Magic and how to use it.
Collectibles
Hogwarts Legacy is a game that’s inspired by the world of Harry Potter. It’s anchored in Wizarding World lore and will bring players new and unexpected locations, characters and story elements.
You’ll be able to explore dungeons and puzzles, craft potions, upgrade your spells and talents and fight Dark wizards. You’ll also be able to customize your Room of Requirement, which will become your base in the magical world.
There’s also a large variety of collectibles scattered throughout the game. These won’t be necessary for your character to improve but will give snippets of lore and other bits of information that can help fans familiar with the series.
There are Field Guide Pages which you can collect in various areas, including Hogwarts Castle, the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village. These will earn you 80XP and can be obtained by lighting a torch or chanting Levioso.
Open World
The open world in Hogwarts Legacy Game Overview is an incredibly detailed homage to Harry Potter. It features iconic locations such as the castle, classrooms and enchanting wizarding village of Hogsmeade, but also a wealth of uncharted areas that are sure to delight fans.
As you explore the world of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, you’ll run into a lot of interesting characters. These range from rule-breaking Slytherin students to eccentric Gryffindors.
You’ll even meet the ghosts that haunt Hogwarts, as well as some of the school’s professors. As you make your way through the game, you’ll also come across dungeons that you may need to fight your way out of.
As you complete quests and explore the world, you’ll be rewarded with cosmetic-only items as well as in-game challenges that unlock a skill tree. You’ll also have the option to fly on a broomstick and use a Hippogriff in your explorations.
