Recap of BGMI in 2022
Earlier this year, India’s premier esports title, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), made headlines when it was named as one of the most downloaded mobile games in the country. However, a few weeks later, the title was de-listed from Apple’s App Store and Google notified affected developers. Moreover, Google received an order to block BGMI in India. These are just a few of the issues plaguing the title, and in turn, the esports community in general.
Luckily, Krafton and its partner NODWIN Gaming have set up some safeguards to protect its titles from misuse. The most notable is the BMSD 2022, the first official BGMI tournament on a LAN. It is slated to run over four days, beginning on the 21st of July. The tournament is expected to yield a prize pool of over INR 6 crore.
Interestingly enough, the BGMI is not the only mobile game on the block. Other titles like the PUBG (short for PlayerUnknown’s Battleground) and Dota 2 are also available in the Indian app store, but for the most part they are nowhere near the popularity of BGMI.

In the near future
BGMI 2023 is on the cards, as the game is expected to return to India in the near future. Despite the ban, there is hope for the return of the popular game.
BGMI is a combat game, which enables players to play in teams. The game was developed by South Korean gaming company Krafton Inc. It was published by Chinese internet firm Tencent. It was initially banned in India in July this year.
It was banned under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000. The ban was imposed on the esports game after royal gamers violated the privacy of Indian citizens.
The government’s decision to ban the game was seen as a major setback for the esports scene in India. It also slowed down the growth of the gaming market in India.
Several statements have surfaced online and in the media, suggesting that the game may be back soon. However, these have not been confirmed by the game’s official website.
